Hey yeah in the midst of all the hype and the strikes, can we PLEASE fucking talk about this
Hi so- I know why!
Hollywood does almost everything in VFX they can these days. They do this because everyone who works on set is Union- but VFX and Animation aren’t. They can find cheap, non union, crunched to hell and back labor in other countries that don’t have the same union protections as every other shop they need on set.
You may have seen photos recently floating around of Sam Jackson on set for a marvel shoot vs Sam Jackson in the final cut. Instead of a designed set (a union job), there’s a green screen. Instead of a well made prop in his hand (a union job), there’s a piece of black foam blocked to kinda look like a gun by a PA who isn’t paid nearly enough.
This is part of Hollywood’s War on Union Labor that once again is defining the corporate age of streamer Hollywood, and it needs to end.
The problem of exploiting VFX artists does absolutely exist in Hollywood at large, however when it comes to at least crediting them, let’s compare the situation with Oppenheimer to other big studio movies that came out around the same time. Like,
Barbie - 135 people credited as “Visual effects by” (as of IMDb)
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One - 609 people credited as “Visual effects by” (once again as per IMDb)
But okay, those movies are from other studios, so let’s look at Universal Studio’s latest release before Oppenheimer:
Fast X - 538 people credited as “Visual effects by” (IMDb link)
So why do some Hollywood movies credit their VFX teams and some decide not to? Maybe the director, who oversees the project and absolutely has a say on the credits as well, especially one like Nolan, who is given all the creative control he needs, is actually responsible for that? Who is also quite infamous for his arrogance and elitism?
we really need to start telling people ‘dont feed the trolls’ again because ragebaiting is getting like. disturbingly effective on the internet again even to young people who should know better
i guess while im at it most things posted online are fake or should be cautiously assumed as fake. r/aita and r/relationshipadvice are like almost entirely fake stories. people make shit up for no reason. not even to win arguments or to make some statement. just no reason! for fun! a lot!
the senate is lying to us
i was really high attempting to reference this tweet but reading it back the next day just sounds like fucking qanon sorry
antpuppy-archive-deactivated202:
Male tits and girl dicks are NORMAL they are 100% normal to me and not just in a sex way but also like, if you are ftm and wanna chill with your boobs out no bra/binder or are mtf and wanna chill in boxers or underwear with a bulge why the hell not? It’s just body parts ya know.
Why does it have to be inherently sexualized by people? If you DO find it sexy that’s ok but I’m referring to transphobes who treat trans peoples bodies as some kind of… “scary”thing
trans bodies are either fetishized or deemed disgusting and in neither of which do the people doing it recognize the trans person as a human being deserving of equal respect and i think thats the core problem. lack of respect
in a way its kind of a similar problem with fat bodies. theyre either fetishized/sexualized or treated as gross or unhealthy. post-op trans bodies are also treated as gross and unhealthy (trans mens’ especially) by a lot of people. and post op/treatment trans womens bodies are fetishized a lot. just treat people normal pretty please
mannnnn not a nitrogen narcosis post on the dash that’s fully lying about what causes it and the effects of it
sorry but this is ridiculous… there isn’t a ‘subset of people’ who are affected by it and we don’t 'have no real idea why it happens to them’. it’s nitrogen narcosis!! they literally REFER TO IT BY NAME IN THE POST!! you can open wikipedia and read a detailed breakdown of how and why it happens with diagrams and everything! aditionally there’s no 'subset’, it happens to literally everyone who goes down deep enough without special equipment! also it becomes a significant risk at 100 feet no 60 but I recognize that’s nitpicky
just. why would anyone lie about this what’s going onnnn
lol i am aware that if you throw somebody down to 100 feet real fucking fast, people will universally get narced.
the point was that there’s no formula like for alcohol intake or other forms of intoxication where you can reliably estimate based on body mass + metabolism how much it’ll take for a specific person to be affected. you take someone down to 60 feet and it’s unpredictable whether they’re good or not at that depth. the big 250 lb guy may completely lose his cool while the petite 120 lb woman is completely fine. we don’t have clear science on why. people’s personal limits of going from the testing threshold down lower aren’t understood, the body chemistry of it and the way that nitrogen acts on different people’s biology hasn’t been deeply explored due to obvious limitations.
also from the 2nd paragraph of the wikipedia page:
Divers can learn to cope with some of the effects of narcosis, but it is impossible to develop a tolerance. Narcosis can affect all divers, although susceptibility varies widely among individuals and from dive to dive.
bottom line, some people are weirdly tolerant of deep dives while it hits others like a train. but the above paragraphs and in-depth explanation kind of break up the flow of the story. sorry if the original post got misconstrued without my extra rambling.
Audrey R., who’s running for the OTW board, is apparently also currently running for office. As a Republican
so uhhhhhh keep that in mind when you’re voting
you’re saying this like a liberal who has the view of republicans.bad dems good and vote blue no mayter who.
y-yes? i sort of think the website that was founded because every other website was purging queer fanwork would be best served by someone who isn’t a member of the We Love Burning Books and Killing Gay People party. but that’s just the humble opinion of someone with a brain that works
For give me, but is this person running for Ao3 board and CONGRESSS at the same time??
Read Fairestcat’s breakdown of Audrey R’s answers to the OTW candidate Q&A for more in-depth reasons you probably don’t want to vote her onto the board https://fairestcat.dreamwidth.org/678527.html
Then read about all the other candidates and decide who you DO want to vote for – there are 6 candidates and 4 open seats – https://elections.transformativeworks.org/otw-elections-candidates/
Reminder that if you want to vote AGAINST someone in the OTW Board elections, you need to NOT RANK THEM AT ALL. If you rank them last, you’ve still voted for them–just less enthusiastically than you’ve voted for everyone else.
Rank ONLY the candidates you would be WILLING to see win. DO NOT rank any candidates you would not be willing to see win.
